Exercise Bike Calories
Exercise bike calories burned varies with several factors. Your size, sex and level of fitness all affect how many calories you burn.
The charts I found show that calories burned on an exercise bike are quite high. For a 150 pound person:
Vigorous use of an exercise bike burns about 9.6 calories per minute, Moderate pedaling nets about 7.9 calories burned.
Compare this to calories burned with other activities:
Rowing a stationary machine at moderate pace - 7.9 calories per minute, Aerobics step 10-12 inch - 11.3 calories per minute, Bicycling at 12-13.9 mph - 9 calories per minute, Running 5.2 mph - 10.2 calories per minute.
When you consider that a pound of fat contains about 3500 calories, you can see it takes quite a bit of activity to eliminate fat. And it is far from a simple calculation to determine how much activity is required to lose weight. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins in the diet all are used as energy sources. And the way the body uses the different sources is very complex.
It appears that the best way to lose fat is to build the basal or "at rest" metabolism rate while at the same time controlling the intake of energy. And how do you increase the metabolism? Mostly by building muscle through the right kinds of exercises. When we think muscle building we think weight lifting, but exercise bike use can also help in an overall fitness program.
Exercise bike programs can be a part of an overall fitness program to lose fat and keep it off. And exercise bike calories burned can help you get where you want to be.
