Schwinn Airdyne Evolution -- Less Is Better
Schwinn
Airdyne Evolution
works your
arms and legs with resistance from turning a fan. The bike doesn't
actually do the work, that's up to you!!! The faster you pedal
and pump, the higher resistance your workout.
Airdyne bikes have been produced since the 1970's and are something of a classic stationary bicycle, the Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike. The model shown here, the Evolution Comp, is an updated model with a smaller fan than the original. This version also has a quieter drive by belt rather than chain. These changes in parts make for a different riding experience.
One of the few weaknesses of the Airdyne upright models is the noise. That's how the EVO model is an attempt at improvement. EVO equals evolution you see!!! It's quieter as a result of the different drive and different fan. LESS noise...
Also, note that the Evo Comp profile is quite a good deal less bulky than the regular Airdyne. That is a result of the much smaller fan and that adds to a more compact machine overall. Another result of the smaller fan is less wind and wind that is not so directly blown on the rider. That is often a good thing and to be desired.
The Schwinn Airdyne Evolution Comp exercise bike is a simple design that requires very little if any maintenance and will go for years with no trouble. My personal bike is an original Airdyne model and has over 7,000 miles on it. It has required no maintenance and still works just like it did when I bought it used years ago. Even the seat still looks as new, not like a used bike with many miles on it.
In addition, dual action bikes provide the best in balanced workouts that include strength benefits especially for arms and shoulders.
The main downside to these bikes is the noise from the resistance fan. These bikes or ergometers as they are sometimes called are not nearly as quiet as the magnetic resistance bikes. The plus is the breeze and wind from the fan keeps you cool!
The electronics is much more basic than many other bikes, especially some of the newer recumbent machines, too. That means no programmed workouts and such, mostly you just get a speedometer and some basic functions. But that also means no fancy computer stuff to break and no electronic drives to crash either and require high cost repairs.
Schwinn
Airdyne Evolution
is a rugged machine that's easy to use and simple to live with. It's
probably the last exercise bike you'll ever need.
